This year’s event attracted more than 20 exhibitors, prominent keynote speakers and an encouraging turn out of visitors from the Diaspora. Kenya Overseas Business Alliance (KOBA) in partnership with The Kenya High Commission, London would like to credit ALL organizations involved, and in particular the Minister for Housing Hon. Soita Shitanda, MP, who has consistently pulled his weight behind the EXPO.
At the EXPO, Hon. Soita Shitanda was joined by Hon. Amos Kimunya, MP, Minister for Transport, Hon. Najib Balala, MP, Minister for Tourism, Hon. David Were, MP, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Hon. Peter Kenneth, MP, Assistant Minister for National Development & Vision 2030, and H.E. Ephraim Ngare, Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK. Also present were heads of government institutions who included; Mrs Mary Kimonye, CEO Brand Kenya Board, James Ruitha, MD National Housing Corporation, Eunice Kariuki, Deputy CEO, Kenya ICT Board, and Andrew Toboso, Kenya Vision 2030’s Director of Strategy & Marketing among others.
Hon. Soita Shitanda, the EXPO chief guest opened the EXPO with a passionate speech themed Kenya Emerging Business Destination. He said time was right for Kenyans in the UK to invest in Kenya’s real estate. There was demand for housing especially in urban areas and supply was low. The minister stressed the Government’s commitment to providing adequate housing for it’s citizens, and has embarked on the rehabilitation of urban areas, trying to get rid of slum settlements. Hon. Soita Shitanda said in part, “The old constitution did not have that provision to prevent interference with infrastructure in the estates. The new estates that will now come up will have green areas, parking, schools, shopping and medical centres all properly constructed according to the new legislation that will be passed by parliament.
